Swiping left and right on LinkedIn profiles is likely not the way to leverage mobile for LinkedIn — but checking out jobs might be.

LinkedIn Job Search, available today on iOS, is the professional network’s latest experiment in mobile apps.

With the new app, job seekers can search for, browse, and apply for jobs. The app can also notify them when jobs are about to expire, when a recruiter has opened their application, and so on.

The app also recommends jobs based on the person’s profile, jobs they’ve browsed, and saved searches. This is likely a good move on LinkedIn’s part, as no one really liked those pesky, random emails with recommended jobs. Putting these recommendations in the context of a job search is much more helpful, and the increase in job-browsing data likely to come from the app can make the recommendations even stronger.

Putting the job search on mobile is also a sneaky way to help currently employed folks to look for their next move more easily, even during their work hours. Can’t just pull up LinkedIn job listings on your work desktop? No problem, just break out your phone while you walk to lunch or mail something, and get searching.

The app is currently only available in the U.S., but the company plans to make it available internationally and in other languages in future releases.
